POSITIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
The Health Department receives grant funding through the Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) and Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) to deliver abstinence education programming that teaches participants how to voluntarily refrain from non-marital sexual activity.
Currently, the Health Department offers:
Positive Potential (SRAE) to 7th and 8th graders
Teen Outreach Program (PREP) to all middle school students.
SRAE/PREP projects are implemented using a Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework as part of risk avoidance strategies, to help participants build healthy life skills, develop individual protective factors that reduce risks, empower youth to make healthy decisions, and provide tools and resources to prevent engaging in risky behaviors.
