Tobacco Prevention & Cessation

The Health Department provides a multi-faceted approach to Tobacco Programming and we offer the following tobacco prevention services to the community:

  • Tobacco prevention education in the schools
  • Tobacco cessation programming and evaluation to the community and local manufacturing facilities
  • Collect, update and maintain data relating to secondhand smoke exposure through varying surveys (community public opinion polls and logging inspected facilities policies on smoking.) Click here to download a Microsoft Excel list of smoke-free establishments in Jessamine County that the health department inspects.
  • Assistance with policy development relating to tobacco regulations/policies/ordinances.

School-based Tobacco Prevention Program

Through a partnership with UK Tobacco Ambassadors, the Stanford Tobacco Prevention Toolkit is utilized to teach our local middle school students about the dangers of tobacco use, including vaping, in an attempt to educate and discourage tobacco experimentation and usage, as well as teaching refusal skills for peer pressure.

Smoke-free Policy Development

The Health Department is able to offer technical assistance to any local business/manufacturer with the development of a smoke-free policy.
