WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program
The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program is designed to provide mother to mother (paraprofessional) breastfeeding support and basic breastfeeding education to WIC Program mothers who are pregnant or breastfeeding. WIC breastfeeding peer counselors provide a valuable service to our mothers by addressing the barriers to breastfeeding by offering breastfeeding education, support, and role modeling.
Peer Counselor Services
A JCHD WIC peer counselor will contact you during your pregnancy and assist you with any questions, or concerns you may have with breastfeeding. This is done through mailings, phone calls, and text messaging if requested. After delivery, the peer counselor will continue to provide support throughout your breastfeeding experience. Our peer counselors are available to support mothers outside of regular business hours to answer any breastfeeding questions our WIC mothers may have or to provide immediate referral to a Certified Lactation Counselor.
Visit the KY WIC Nutrition Education page for more resources.
